Mission Statement

Bike North Bergen is dedicated to advocating for safer streets in North Bergen, New Jersey. We focus on building robust infrastructure for pedestrians, cyclists, and all forms of active transportation.

Our vision is clear:

  • Safer Streets: Ensuring all road users can move around safely in the most densely populated metropolitan area in the U.S.
  • Walkability & Bikeability: Creating cities where walking and biking are not only possible but the safest and most convenient options.
  • Community Impact: We envision a future where children can bike to school and the elderly can safely use mobility scooters for daily errands.

We are proud members of Hudson County Complete Streets, a non-profit advocacy group promoting Vision Zero and Complete Streets principles across Hudson County.

Johan Andrade

Founder and President

A lifelong Hudson County resident since the age of 5, Johan became passionate about urban streets and active transportation during a vacation to The Netherlands where his aunt resides. Bike North Bergen launched in September of 2021 and has been steadily growing interest with people in the town who want to see safer streets for all road users. Johan works in the tech industry graduating from the New Jersey Institute of Technology with a degree in Computer Engineering. | LinkedIn

Stephanie Martinez

Volunteer

Steph, an environmental advocate based in North Bergen, NJ, unceded Lenape land, is a Hudson County native and child of immigrants. She advocates for transportation equity, highlighting the interconnected struggles BIPOC communities face daily, and interconnected solutions that meet the needs of Hudson residents and beyond. Engaged with Bike North Bergen and Hudson County Complete Streets, her experiences as a road user empower her to demand youth inclusion in decision-making for equitable, sustainable safe streets for all. Beyond activism, she works in the lab as a Research Technician at the New Jersey Institute of Technology focusing on plastics’ impacts on female reproductive health.
